The Scientific Secrets of Doctor Who is a mind-bending blend of story and science that will help you see Doctor Who in a whole new light, weaving together a series of all-new adventures, featuring every incarnation of the Doctor.
With commentary that explores the possibilities of time travel, life on other planets, artificial intelligence, parallel universes and more, Simon Guerrier and Dr Marek Kukula show how Doctor Who uses science to inform it’s unique style of storytelling – and just how close it has often come to predicting future scientific discoveries.
This book is your chance to be the Doctor’s companion and explore what’s out there. It will make you laugh, and think, and see the world around you differently.
The Scientific Secrets of Doctor Who contains my short story, ‘Lost Generation’.
What a fantastic idea for a book! Authors and editors Simon Guerrier and Dr. Marek Kukula have assembled a great selection of original Doctor Who short stories here, each one based on a different scientific theme, and each one tying to a chapter on that theme as portrayed in the show, and how various televised stories have explored it. It’s a clever mash-up of popular science, Doctor Who commentary and new stories.
I was delighted to be asked to contribute a story on the theme of ‘space travel’, and it proved a lovely opportunity to revisit the Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane, who find themselves on a long long generation starship, populated by a devolved society of human colonists, and killer sheep.
“Highlights include George Mann’s Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane adventure ‘The Lost Generation’, which has shades of ‘The Face of Evil’ and ‘Flesh and Stone’ about it, as well as the worst/best sheep pun in print.”
